It’s been more than two months since the entire world is under lockdown fighting, the coronavirus pandemic. To sustain the business, companies have changed their strategy overnight, allowing the employees to work remotely. While many companies are keeping the business running with the new normal of working from home, others are letting go of employees because of slow business. The global economy is facing a major recession, and there are job losses in many sectors. Even amidst this uncertain scenario, one domain is seeing more demand for job opportunities than ever, Cybersecurity.
As many organizations are functioning remotely, their security concerns are becoming more important now than ever. Working from home while keeping the business running, it also increases the risk of cyber-attacks and threats to malware attacks. Thus, companies are looking to improve the security of their networks and cloud servers, and the demand for cybersecurity roles is on the up despite uncertainty and cutting down on jobs in other sectors.
There is an increase in demand for cybersecurity professionals from big IT giants and other IT & Cloud servicing companies that caters to the banking and financial sectors.
“Demand has gone up by up to 15%,” said Sunil C, head-specialized staffing at Teamlease Digital, in his conversation with The Economic Times.
Catering to the work-from-model, many IT service providers have already upgraded their security infrastructure and are hiring skilled cybersecurity experts.
“The lockdown news came as a bombshell. Overnight, companies had to re-design their strategies on how to keep business afloat and implement precautionary measures to protect private information. The situation becomes even more challenging with a higher risk of data breaches as employees are given access to crucial materials to continue working from locations outside of a secure office environment,” said Gaurav Vohra, co-founder, and CEO, Jigsaw Academy, in his conversation with The Education Times.
The rapid adoption and use of the application program interface (API) have created multiple hurdles in the way organizations approach data security challenges. As the developers struggle to incorporate integration of security at the early stages of application and software development, there is a need for expert cybersecurity professionals.
Companies are assigning more importance to cybersecurity in the delivery of the projects while working remotely. As the organizations are migrating to the cloud servers and the virtual world is becoming reality, cybersecurity is becoming more important than ever, hiring in this domain is increasing while hiring in the other sectors is frozen.
Big IT giants like Infosys, Cognizant, PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC), Ernst & Young (E&Y), Deloitte, and KPMG and more are focussing on hiring proficient and certified Cybersecurity professionals.
That said, there will be an upsurge in the hiring of cybersecurity roles in the coming months and after the lockdown, making Cybersecurity a virus-proof tech job.
