How to Make the Most of the Big Data Analytics Course?
The Big Data Analytics Certification course is one of the most popular courses at Jigsaw Academy. It is a good option for people that have an IT or Database background, and are interested in handling Data Engineering or Data Analytics roles. This course builds on their programming and DB knowledge and helps students leverage their past experience in managing and processing Big Data for advanced analytics applications in the workplace.
As this is one of Jigsaw Academy’s most popular courses, we have a lot of students pursuing the course. To help everyone, we spoke with Yamini Pandari – one of the top performers in the Big Data Contest hosted by Jigsaw Academy, on how she was able to get the most out of the Big Data Analytics course. We also asked her to share her advice to new students and how they can also replicate her success.
During our conversation, she shared many useful tips and honest feedback on what has worked for her – and what she would have liked to improve. I’ve shared the gist of the conversation below, edited for brevity and clarity.
Yamini is based out of Chennai and working in a technology company. With about five years of experience, she was looking for something that will help her expand her skillsets and grow her career faster.
During her research, she discovered the growing interest around analytics and Big Data and the career opportunities it offered. Understanding that Big Data was a good path for to build her career in – especially considering her understanding of IT and programming, she enrolled with Jigsaw Academy for the Big Data Specialization and the Text Mining course.
As for the advice, this is what she had to say:
Students at Jigsaw Academy learn when they watch the course videos and do the assignments, but what really cements their learning is the application of what they learned. Students get access to multiple contests and case study competitions, some of them created by faculty, and some of them created by companies.
According to Yamini, “The material that we get at Jigsaw Academy is quite good and comprehensive, but it’s not the most important bit. I learned a lot when I practiced what I had learned during my classes in the live labs. This where you must go to maximize learning.”
“I am active in the competitions and challenges. I didn’t win the Big Data competition, but my model had a 77% accuracy rate and I learned a lot when I participated. A lot of my learning happened in the competition because of the hands-on nature.”

Yamini reached out to faculty when she was stuck with a concept or assignment issue. While she found the one on one interactions useful, she also recommends that students attend as many webinars as they can. According to her, “I had a good response from the faculty. They were able to answer my doubts and help me solve my problems, but the bigger value will be when you attend the webinars and learn from the presenter directly,” she said.
